Capitol of Texas Park

I have set out to get a photo of every Historical Marker in Brazoria County.  This may take a while, but my job takes me all over the county.  While doing so, sometimes I come across some real gems.  In honor of San Jacinto Day, I post the pictures here today.

Take a walk through the Capitol of Texas Park in West Columbia, Texas.  You can browse through these photos and get a quick history lesson on the beginnings of Texas,

The Trayvon Martin Case - Why Are People Protesting?

I ask the question above in all honesty.  Why are people protesting/demonstrating in this case.  First of all, I do not believe that the criminal justice system should ever be influenced by protests, political pressure or anything similar.  People should be prosecuted and judged by the law.  Secondly, Zimmerman was arrested.  I do not care what "statements" were made by the police, if you are handcuffed and transported to the police department, then you have been arrested.  He was not free to go at any time, which equals arrest.

Zimmerman has not been charged yet with the killing of Trayvon Martin.  This is a tragedy if Martin indeed was not doing anything wrong.  I say if, because the facts are not known to most of us, only those that witnessed the incident. There are many out there that are playing the race card.  This includes our president who for the second time, has jumped the gun in a criminal justice incident and has played the race card concerning something.  Maybe later he will attempt to fix this one over a beer also.

I have no idea if Zimmerman is guilty or not, neither do you. What we do know, is that the media has intentionally blown this incident out of proportion and has attempted to make it a racial incident.  NBC can deny it all they want, but the facts are, that the edited 911 tapes are very misleading, and one would only edit them that way if they were trying to race bait the public.  It was no accident.

Another thing is that even when articles are titled "Sorting out truth from fiction in the Trayvon Martin case" [sic] like from the Detroit Free Press, they still use a photo of 12 year old Trayvon Martin, attempting to show the poor innocent victim, and a mug shot of Zimmerman.  There is no way those are the only 2 photos of each individual in the case.  The use of these photos in this manner are also intended to stir up trouble.

So what do the protesters want?  They want Zimmerman arrested?  He already has been.  This is just like the old Western movie where the Sheriff has the suspect in custody, and the angry mob wants to hang him.  The Sheriff stands his ground and says he deserves a fair trial.  The mob wants "justice" and they want it now.

The people who have been involved in stirring up people will not admit they are wrong.  They should though.  They should apologize to everyone.  They won't though, and they will not take responsibility for inciting people to doing dumb things.

Use your head.  Don't fall for all the nonsense.  and stay safe!
